Police Department

The Babbitt Police Department provides 24-hour coverage covering an area that includes 108 square miles surrounding the City of Babbitt.  The department is made up of 4 full-time officers and 5 part-time officers.  Many of our part-time officers are also employed as deputies or police officers in neighboring communities.  In addition to patrol duties, officers are actively involved in our community with many having served or are currently serving on our fire and ambulance services as well as civic organizations.

Chief Michael McGregor - Chief McGregor began his career with the Babbitt Police Department in 1997.  He served for 9 years before being hired with the Lake County Sheriff's Office.  After 14 1/2 years of service with Lake County, he returned to the Babbitt Police Department after being appointed as the Chief of Police.  Over the course of a 25 year public safety career Chief McGregor has served on 3 ambulance services, 1 fire department and 1 rescuc squad.  Chief McGregor is also an army veteran of the Iraq war.

 

 

 

Babbitt Police Officers:

Officer Jon Shenett -

Officer Jon Shenett has been a full-time officer with the Babbitt Police Department since 2007.  Officer Shenett is an EMT and Minnesota DNR snowmobile and ATV safety instructor.  Officer Shenett received a life-saving commendation award in 2012.

 

 

Officer Todd Heikkila -

Officer Todd Heikkila has been a full-time officer with the Babbitt Police Department since 2004.  He is trained as an EMT, fireman, and Minnesota DNR snowmobile and ATV safety instructor.

 

 

K9 Officer Cody Siebert -

K9 Officer Siebert was licensed as a police officer in March of 2016.  He has served with the Babbitt Police Department since 2017.  K9 Officer Siebert serves with his partner K9 Taconite or "Tac".  Taconite is certified in patrol and narcotics detection.  K9 Officer Siebert is also an active member of the Babbitt Ambulance Service.

 

 

Officer Troy Bissonette -

Officer Troy Bissonette was licensed as a police officer and began serving for the Babbitt Police Department in 2019.  Officer Bissonette is also an active member of the Babbitt Ambulance Service.

 

 

Officer Cody Loewen -

Officer Cody Loewen is a part-time police officer with the Babbitt Police Department and began his law enforcement career in 2013.  He is employed full-time as a police officer with the Hibbing Police Department and is trained as a Minnesota DNR snowmobile and ATV safety instructor.



 

Officer Adam Borchert -

 

Officer Adam Borchert is a part-time officer with the Babbitt Police Department He bagan his law enforcement career in 2003 and works full-time as a Lake County Deputy.

 

The Babbitt Police Department has access to a volunteer Chaplain. He operates under a division of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department and is available to provide professional, non-denominational services for police department employees, their families and also for citizens. The Chaplain is available on call and also participate in ride-alongs with officers and other department activities. The Chaplain that serves the Babbitt area is Father Bill Skarich.

 

Father Bill Skarich was ordained as a Catholic Priest in 1999 and serves at St. Anthony's in Ely and St. Pius X in Babbitt.
